Cleave for iOS

How to Play

Cleave is a turn-based puzzle. Each level gives you a tray of pieces and a target silhouette. Your job is to transform the pieces so they exactly fill the silhouette — with no pieces left over in the tray.

Frequently Asked Questions

Touch and drag a piece from the tray to the board. The piece lifts slightly above your finger so you can see where it will land. Drop it on the silhouette to place it.

Tap a piece to select it, then long-press to enter transform mode (you'll see a pulsing ring). Drag left or right to rotate 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise. Drag up or down to flip. Rotation is free; flipping costs 1 token.

Tokens are your budget for non-free transforms. Flipping, splitting, and merging each cost 1 token. Rotation is always free. Each level has a token budget — use fewer tokens to earn better medals. Gold is awarded for the optimal solution.

Select a piece, tap the SPLIT button, then drag across the piece to draw a cut line. The line snaps to cell boundaries. Release to split the piece into two. Splitting becomes available in World 2.

Drag one piece onto another piece in the tray. Any cells that overlap cancel out; the cells that don't overlap survive. This is an XOR merge. Merging becomes available in World 2.

Introduced in World 4 (Blend), a compound cell requires two primary colors stacked together — for example, red and yellow to make orange. You satisfy it by placing two pieces on the same cell, one of each required color.

A level is only solved when the silhouette is filled AND the tray is empty. If you fill the target shape but still have pieces left over, you'll see a "USE ALL PIECES" hint. Reset the level and try a different approach.

Endless is a procedurally generated stream of levels that scales in difficulty as you climb. Mechanics unlock progressively: merge at level 7, split at level 15, color affinity at level 22, and compound cells at level 30. Endless unlocks after completing World 3.

The toolbar at the top of each level has BACK, HINT, SPLIT (from World 2 onward), and RESET buttons. RESET restores the level to its starting state. HINT reveals progressive help: first the target piece, then where it goes, and finally the exact transforms required.
